Trama

La vita della "Pulzella di Orléans", divisa tra storia e mitologia popolare, vista con gli occhi di Hollywood. La dimensione spirituale della vicenda di Giovanna diventa secondaria rispetto alla scenografia, alle belle riprese d'azione e a Ingrid Bergman. L'attrice svedese volle fortissimamente interpretare questa parte che considerava, a torto, il coronamento della sua carriera. Il buon Fleming, ottimo artigiano al suo utlimo film, fa quel che può in questo film curato e greve, tratto da un dramma di Maxwell Anderson e fotografato a colori da Joseph Valentine (che vinse l'Oscar).
